FAYETTEVILLE, NC – April 6, 2016 – Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) announced today the hiring of three head coaches for the Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate basketball and golf teams. Brian S. Hurd will coach the men’s basketball team, Eric Tucker will coach the women’s basketball team, and John Michael Cole will coach the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Hurd is from Lee County and attended Central Carolina Community College. He was the associate head coach for men’s basketball at Central Carolina Community College for eight seasons where his duties included recruiting, player development, practice planning, and executing the day-to-day operations for the basketball program. Coach Hurd takes pride in the relationships he has built with his student athletes, and he has helped several to further their academic and athletic careers under scholarships at various institutions. Hurd and his wife, Laura, have two children, Cadenze, 12, and Trey, 3.
Tucker is from Fayetteville, NC, and has been employed at FTCC since his retirement from Fayetteville State University in 2009. He is currently Director of the Fitness Center at the FTCC Spring Lake Campus. Coach Tucker led the FSU Broncos team for 17 years where his teams won six CIAA Division titles, had six NCAA Division II Playoff appearances, three CIAA Championship finals, and one CIAA Championship. Tucker received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from North Carolina Central University. He earned his master’s degree in Education Administration from Fayetteville State University. Tucker and his wife Theresa, have three children, Keith, Erica, and John.
Cole is a graduate of Cape Fear High School and began his collegiate career at Fayetteville State University where he was named CIAA Player of the Year as a freshman. In addition he was named to the PING All Region Team that year. At the completion of his freshman year he transferred to Appalachian State University (ASU). He lettered all three years at ASU and was named team captain his senior year. He is currently playing as a professional on a minor tour in the Carolinas. Cole lives in Fayetteville, NC, and his parents are Michael and Gloria Cole.
