Q. What is Coffee and English?

A. It is a multi-media English language learning program. It is designed as a distance-learning course for students who cannot attend traditional classes. It consists of twenty episodes with lessons which are broadcast on FCE-TV, channel 5 in the Fayetteville/ Cumberland county area. Episodes are also available on DVD and on this webpage

Q. Who can enroll?

A. Adult English as a Second Language students who want to improve English language skills. Students should be intermediate level or above.

Q. How do I enroll?

A. Come to Fayetteville Technical Community College, Continuing Education Center, Room 138. Bring a picture ID. You will be registered and assessed. If you cannot come during normal school hours, call the instructor at 910-678-0151 to arrange a time convenient for you.

Q. How do I know what level I am?

A. Before you can enter the program, you will be assessed for your skills in reading and listening in English.

Q. How much does the program cost?

A. The program is offered through the Department of Basic Skills at Fayetteville Technical Community College and is free for residents of North Carolina.

Q. What materials do I need?

A. You will receive a student workbook with lessons connected to the episodes. You will also need a dictionary and, if possible, an English grammar book. Your instructor will give you suggestions for grammar books to use.

Q. What will I study?

A. You will study reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. You will also study workplace and life skills.

Q. What exercises are in the student workbook?

A. Each week will have vocabulary, reading comprehension, dictation, grammar, and writing exercises.

Q. How much time will I need to spend each week?

A. That is difficult to answer because each student is different.
