FTCC men’s basketball coach Brian Hurd recorded his 100th career win on Saturday with a 73-70 win over Catawba Valley CC at home.

Hurd attributed his success to the quality of players and coaching staff he’s worked with during his tenure at FTCC.

“The student-athletes deserve most of the credit,” Hurd said. “We’ve had some really good guys come in, prioritize their academics and then transfer that success to the court. Now we’ve established a culture of that here at FTCC.”

Hurd has coached the Trojans since the program’s inaugural season in 2016-17.

“I want to thank (former FTCC President) Dr. Larry Keen and (current FTCC President) Dr. Mark Sorrells for their continued support,” Hurd said. “Dr. Keen took a chance on me, and they’ve given me the chance to build something the College can be proud of.”

With Saturday’s win, the Trojans improved to 21-7 on the season, putting them in third place in the Region 10 Division II standings. They host division opponent Louisburg at home in the regular-season finale Wednesday. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Reid Ross Classical School.

Hurd said he is focused on preparing his team for a strong postseason run and continued success in the future.

“We’re celebrating these 100 wins,” Hurd said. “And now it’s time to start working on the next 100.”
