High School Connections – Central Sterile Processing (C45180H1)

Program Description

The Central Sterile Processing curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for the field of Sterile Processing and Central Service Supply.
Students will develop skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store, and issue both sterile and nonsterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for patient care. Additionally, students will learn to operate sterilizing units and monitor effectiveness of the sterilization progress.
Graduates will be eligible to take the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution. Upon successful completion of the national certification examination, graduates will earn their credentials as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician.
Employment opportunities include surgery centers, central sterile processing department in hospitals, and traveling consultation services.

Competitive Admissions

For the tradition program (C45180), students must have a high school diploma or GED for approval into the Central Sterile Processing program.
Once approved for a Health program, students will be provided with information regarding books, uniforms, supplies and equipment, and any additional program requirements.

As part of the competitive admission process, each student is evaluated based on a point system.

Outcomes

  • To prepare competent entry-level Sterile Processing Technicians in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
  • To prepare students to function in a professional, caring, and ethical manner when decontaminating, assembling, and preparing surgical equipment and other medical devices for patient use.
  • To prepare students to successfully complete the National Certification examination conducted by the CBSPD and contribute to the workforce of employers on a global scale.
  • To prepare students to achieve the highest standards of knowledge and competency in order to make a positive contribution to the complete care of the surgical patient.
  • To recruit and retain quality students who are enthusiastic and motivated to become professional, competent Sterile Processing Technicians.
