MARCH 2, 2014 - APRIL 27, 2014
'SPRING TRAINING PROGRAM'- the health HIT of the season!...a 4-week program that will take you around the bases on the Spring Training scorecard by earning an average of 1 run a day.
Health and Fitness Become A National Pastime
Even if you don't know how to hold a bat, you can hit a home run toward a healthier, more productive lifestyle with the Spring Training Program.
A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME
This 4-week challenge is an opportunity to sample healthy activities. Some are as simple as taking a healthful snack to work; others are more challenging - like not smoking for a day or scheduling an eye exam. You choose the activities; they start you down the stretch toward a brand new lifestyle.
How to Play: Your goal is to round all the bases on the Spring Training scorecard by earning an average of 1 run a day. Completing just 1 "home run" activity will earn you that run; or you can combine singles, doubles, or triples. Aim to make it to 1 base by the end of each week.
Who Can Join the Team? Anyone from an all-star athlete to a fan in the stands can participate. Never heard of the New York Mets? No matter. You can still install a smoke detector, take a 10-minute walk with a friend, do a little yard work, or not turn on your TV for a day.
What's In It For You? This could be just the incentive you need to improve your eating or exercise habits or cut out cigarettes, for example. You'll receive warm-up tips for behavior change, guide to good health resources, a list of top health websites, even a few words of wisdom of the baseball greats. There are fun baseball puzzles and Internet sites, information about Major League teams along with spring training locations, and incentives if you lose a pound a week, but you have to lose a pound. (smile). Weigh-ins on Tuesdays from 7:30 a.m. and Thursday 12:0p.m.-1:00 p.m. at the main campus Fitness Center. Weigh-ins at the Spring Lake Fitness Center on Mondays from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and Thursday from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
