Congressional Scholars History

"Congressional Scholars, made possible through Congressman Robin Hayes, is the first-in-the-nation program to make the vast treasure trove of knowledge of the Library of Congress accessible and usable to America's classrooms. We will be able to field test in Western North Carolina and the 8th District of NC the value of the Library's online primary source collections to educators. The results from this local community initiative will help the Library focus its continuing efforts to make its resources available and educationally useful to all Americans in their own communities and to ensure that the Library's online primary source materials become field tested and fully integrated with the school curriculums of an entire community."

Dr. James Billington
the Librarian of Congress
