Huskins "Terminology 101"

Confused amidst all of the terms you read?   We are here to help you decipher Huskins “lingo.”

Huskins classes-

  • only high school students

  • provides high school elective credit (sometimes honors-weighted) and college credit

  • contributes to student’s high school GPA

  • tuition is free

  • students provide own textbook and supply costs

  • student completes a Huskins application and enrolls through their school counselor

  • student provides college level behavior and studying

Concurrent enrollment-

  • Tuition is free

  • High school student registers for a regular FTCC college course and section

  • Courses provide college credit but are not on high school transcript nor are given high school elective credit

  • Student must be enrolled in his or her respective high school for 1/2 the school day

  • Student pays only the nominal student activity fee and textbook/supply costs

  • Student works with high school counselor and has concurrent enrollment form completed; then registers for FTCC classes during open registration

  • Student may contact the FTCC counselor for high school students at (910) 678-8379

Accuplacer testing-

This placement test is used for entrance into many FTCC programs.  For Huskins courses it is required that you sign up to take this test if you will be taking pre-ADN courses or are registering for Math and English Huskins classes.  IF you made a verbal or math score of 450 + on the SAT or a composite score of 18 on the ACT you will NOT need to take this placement test.  See your counselor for registration procedures or call our FTCC testing office, (910) 678-8394 and let them know that you are a Huskins student and need to take the test. The following scores are required:

  • For MAT 161+ - Accuplacer Algebra score of 80+

  • For ENG 111+ - Accuplacer Reading score of 80+ AND

  • Sentence Skills score of 87+

Completer courses-

  • Completer courses- These are 2nd level courses needed to “complete” your Tech Prep pathway which will be needed for graduation by 2004.  See our 2003-2004 offerings and check to see if they are level 1 or level 2.  Some groupings can be completed in 1 year’s time!
