BASIC LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for employment as a law enforcement officer with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise. Law enforcement is an exciting and rewarding career, if this is something you would be interested in please review the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission entrance requirements.
This program utilizes State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to: Elements of Criminal Law, Juvenile Law, Civil Process, Motor Vehicle Law, Traffic Enforcement, Alcoholic Beverage Laws, Criminal Investigations, Patrol Duties, Detention Duties, Testifying in Court, Ethics and Crime Prevention. A brief summary of each BLET Topic will give you an idea of the type classes you can expect at the academy.
Successful graduates receive 19 credits towards an Associate Degree, a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take the certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. You can obtain more information on exactly which classes you will receive credit for by going to the FTCC college catalog or check on our new Brochure for more information.
All applications can be picked up at the FTCC Spring Lake Campus Monday-Thursday, from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Completed applications can be turned in by appointment only at the Spring Lake Campus. Please call 910-678-1011 for appointments. We have several academies in session throughout the year. We have full time and part time academies. Click on Academy Start Dates to find out which academy will suit your needs. There are deadlines for each academy so make sure to review carefully as to when to submit your completed application and when to complete your PT assessment.
