FAYETTEVILLE, NC – September 4, 2014 – Fayetteville Technical Community College’s Student Government Association invites the public to participate in two 9/11 observance events at its Fayetteville Campus located at 2201 Hull Road to honor those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The first event is a 9/11 Observance Ceremony on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at the student gazebo near the Tony Rand Student Center. Army Brigadier General Ferdinand Irizarry II will speak at the observance. Brigadier General Irizarry became the head of FORSCOM’s US Army Reserve Command in June 2013. Prior to his current assignment, he was the deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, NC.
The second event is a 9/11 Remembrance Concert at 12 noon on the front lawn of the Tony Rand Student Center featuring the FORSCOM Army Ground Forces Ceremonial Band. The band, under the direction of Captain Dae Kim (commander and conductor), relocated to Fort Bragg, NC, from Fort McPherson, GA and held one of its first public performances in the Fayetteville area at the College in 2011. Seating for 150 attendees will be provided for the hour-long concert, and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and lunch to enjoy on the lawn.
Both events are free and open to the public. In case of inclement weather, the events will be held in the Horace Sisk Gymnasium.
