How it Works

The Department of Aerospace Studies is a regular department of Fayetteville State University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Fayetteville Tech students attend AFROTC classes at FSU through a cross-town agreement between the universities.

The departmental staff is comprised of active duty Air Force officers serving as members of the university faculty. The Professor of Aerospace Studies (PAS) is head of the department and the detachment commander.

The other instructors are known as Assistant Professors of Aerospace Studies (APAS). This staff holds both academic and military rank Active duty enlisted personnel perform the detachment’s daily administrative and personnel functions. This department adheres to all rules and regulations of the universities. Student members of this detachment are known as cadets.

The AFROTC Scholarship Program is designed solely to support the overall AFROTC mission to recruit and retain students to meet United States Air Force officer production requirements. The program provides an incentive to attract and retain high quality individuals whose academic specialties, leadership potential, and personal and physical qualities meet Air Force accession objectives.
