The Adult Work Experience Program sponsored by the Workforce Development Center in Cumberland County is an employment component of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). It is designed to help participants develop and enhance work skills, explore career choices, obtain gainful employment and become more marketable when entering or re-entering the workforce.

Participants are paid wages through the Workforce Development Center while participating in the work experience. The participant can work up to 32 hours per week for a contract period of 480 hours per participant. The participant is assigned a Case Worker; this person will serve as the liaison between the worksite and the participant and is responsible for monitoring the work experience placement to ensure successful completion.
Upon completion of the work experience placement, it is the objective of the program that the participant is retained by the employer as a permanent employee.
