Blackboard Course Site Requests

Instructors are required to submit an email request to mitchelm@faytechcc.edu for Blackboard course sites each semester. The email must contain the information listed below. Requests for Fall 2010 courses MUST be submitted by August 12th at 5:00 p.m. Instructor access to Online, Hybrid and Web Assisted course sites take precedence over the creation of face to face courses.

Include these items:
1. Which semester will the course be offered?
2. What are the Course Prefix and Number: (ex. ACA 115)
3. What is the Section Number of the course(s)?
4. If you are teaching multiple sections of the same course, would you like separate sections or a single section?
5. Is this a new course offering?
6. If not, what course content do you plan to use?
(example: EOT class from Fall 2009, FTCC Template, Instructor xxx's course from spring 07)
This helps direct the instructor to the correct way to enter content in the course.

If you are submitting a request for multiple courses, you can include the information above in a list.

It may be 3-5 days before your courses are ready to access.

Instructors are Responsible for Course Content

  • FTCC online, hybrid and web assisted courses are required to use the SACS compliant Blackboard template.
  • Instructions for saving and importing the template are located here.
  • The SACS compliant Blackboard template is available for download by clicking here.
  • Info for distinguishing previous course id's is listed here. Course id's are also displayed when copying to a Blackboard site.
  • If you plan to copy current Blackboard course content to the new sites, click here for instructions.

End of Semester Info
An archive of each course is completed by Blackboard at the end of the semester. Instructors should also archive and keep a copy of the archive, just in case the collected archives somehow become corrupt. Archive instructions are here.

Please export grade centers for each course. Information is located here.

Blackboard courses remain on the server for one year's semester cycle. Example: Fall 09 will stay online until Fall 10 is past the 10% point. Spring 10 will stay on Blackboard until Spring 11 is past the 10% point, etc.

Reasons for Course Information Request

  • Blackboard course sites must contain a correct course ID number each semester.
  • This is necessary for students to be enrolled in the correct Blackboard course site for the semester.
  • FTCC is required to keep historical archives of courses, which must include the correct course id curriculum courses.

Course ID example: CIS 110 0904 for Fall 2010, course ID would be 2010FA.CIS.110.0904
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Student ID's for fall semester 2010 will be created for Blackboard on Wednesday, August 11th at approximately 3 p.m. Students will be batch enrolled into Blackboard course sites Wednesday, August 11th by approximately 5:00 p.m. Blackboard enrollment updates will continue through the last day student schedule changes are allowed by FTCC's registrar's office.

Students that area not listed in Blackboard:

  • May be listed as a Continuing Education student in Datatel. The registrar's office needs to be contacted to change the student's status to Curriculum.
  • NOTE ON STUDENT NAME CHANGES:
Although name changes are processed through FTCC's registrar's office, the name change does not affect the student's username used for logging into email, Blackboard, and/or WebAdvisor.  The student's name on the class roster may not match the Blackboard login.

If you have a question concerning a student on your blackboard roster, refer first to the student's first name and last 4 digits of his/her datatel number.  If both of these match a name from your Datatel/WebAdvisor roster then this is an indication they are the same student.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A student can only be listed in Blackboard if their Datatel record is correct.
