The College is preparing to move to a single sign-on for network access, email and Blackboard. Single Sign-on will allow a user to login using the same username and password for all systems. This will alleviate users from having to remember multiple usernames and passwords. The first change will be for Spring 2012 as the integration of Datatel with Blackboard is implemented.
Beginning December 14, 2011 the Blackboard username for faculty and staff will match their WebAdvisor username. The new login will affect all curriculum courses in Blackboard (spring 2011 through spring 2012). Additionally, the password for faculty/staff will be reset to the birth date in MMDDYYYY format (Example: April 25, 1947 would be 04251947). Faculty/staff will need to change the password to of their own choosing when logging into Bb. The primary email address listed in Datatel for faculty (Groupwise or @faculty.faytechcc.edu) will be the email address integrated into Blackboard. Make sure the primary email adddress listed in Datatel matches the one used for student communications listed in Blackboard.
Instructors will not longer request Blackboard course sites each semester. More informaton is online at http://www.faytechcc.edu/faculty_staff/Bb_Request.asp.
These changes will not affect student usernames in Blackboard. *Student usernames in Blackboard currently mimic the students WebAdvisor login.
Starting on December 14, 2011
- Datatel will be integrated directly into Blackboard. What that means is the integration tool (called snapshot) will create all courses in Blackboard for Spring 2012. This will occur as the Curriculum Data Management office creates the course sections in Datatel.
- Instructor names entered in Datatel will be assigned to the course site in Blackboard. Datatel needs to list all instructors and others (ex: Department Chair, Division Chair, Dean, etc) who should have access to a course section.
- Students will be enrolled into the correct course section based on their registration. If a student drops, changes or adds a course, Bb will be updated automatically. Students who drop a course after the start date will be disabled in the Blackboard course (grayed out in the course, but still visible to the instructor).
- Course sections will no longer be combined. The reason is any course/student enrollment information listed in Datatel is mirrored in Blackboard.
- The integration tool will run every two hours (except 2-4 am) daily and automatically update all the information in Blackboard (courses, users, enrollments) from the information in Datatel.
What does this mean for the instructor?
Instructors new Blackboard login will be the same as their WebAdvisor login. The initial password will be the instructor's birth date in mmddyyyy format. Courses will listed separately since this new procedure will take a snapshot of course information in Datatel and place the same information in Blackboard. This includs course id, course title, student enrollments and instructor assignments.
What if an instructor has already requested 2010SP assignments in Blackboard? Beginning December 14, 2011...
- Faculty MUST be associated as an instructor with a course in Datatel to be listed as the course's instructor in Blackboard.
- If you previously asked for courses to be combined, courses will now be listed individually.
- Example: 2012SP.RED.090.0901 is titled RED 090 Improved College Reading 0901/0902SP , December 14th, the title will be RED 090 Improved College Reading 0901 and you will also have RED 090 Improved College Reading 0902SP
- Content will remain in the original site. In the example above 0901 is the original site.
- Instructors will need to copy the 0901 content to 0902 so both sites can be used. This will happen for any combined course sites.
- Students will be enrolled in each section.
- If you try to enroll students from other sections into a Blackboard coruse site, the students will be removed whenever the next snapshot is run. The snapshot is taken every 2 hours.
Any changes needed in Blackboard after December 14, 2011 must be processed through Datatel. The bottom line will be, "If it is not in Datatel, it is not in Blackboard."
The two points of contacts are Karen Williams for courses/sections/instructors and Ann Jones for students. Learning Technologies will no longer add curriculum courses, instructors, or students to course sites in Blackboard. Learning Technologies will no longer have access to add, remove or enroll students or instructors manually in Blackboard.
All student changes must go through the Registrar's office.
RECAP: Blackboard procedures for creating curriculum courses, faculty logins/enrollments and student logins/enrollments will change on December 14, 2011 as outlined above.
