SIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING

INTERPRETING I        Fee: $60
Sign language interpreting is designed for students who have sign language skills at the intermediate level. The role of the interpreter is to ensure that there is accurate communication between the hearing and those who are deaf or hearing impaired. Instruction will include an introduction to and historical overview of the interpreting profession, an introduction to deaf culture, the interpreter's code of ethics, public speaking techniques, and guided practice in the skills of sign to voice and voice to sign communication. It is not enough to just interpret the words spoken or signed, the interpreter must also be able to relay the meaning of the message through an understanding of the importance ofFeelings conveyed by the participants. Qualified interpreters are in high demand and can be employed in a variety of situations, including educational, medical, legal, religious, recreational, and/or personal.
