ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY Fee: $35
In the advanced digital photography course, we will seek to understand more complex software applications and the technical knowledge you need to take great digital photos. The first choice for photographic digital editing software is still Photoshop, and we will explore it in-depth. We will also be flexible so that we can work with other software students might prefer. Information covered will cater to personal interests with the instructor working with each of you individually, as well as teaching to the entire class.

DIGITAL PHOTO EDITING Fee: $50 This course is designed for students who have a little digital experience and are ready to explore photo editing. You will be using Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 as your primary editing software. Discussion will include Adobe menu bar, tool box, options bar, and palettes. You will learn how to download and import your photos into Photoshop and make minor and major editing adjustments. You will also learn how to scan your traditional 35mm prints and convert them to a digital image and crop and edit your photos. You will need to bring digital photo images or photos and a blank CD-R to class, plus optional 1G+ USB flash drive. Instructor: Jonathan Starling

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR SENIORS Fee: $45 Have your children or grandchildren been trying to convince you to learn how to use a digital camera, or maybe they're giving you one as a present and you're not at all sure you want it? That 35mm camera is just fine, and you don't need another camera-right? Well, let's give it a try, and you just might be surprised at how much you will like it, and how much fun it will be to see what new things you can do with your photographs. Learning to use a digital camera is fun and easy, and it's convenient with no more film and processing costs. You can print your photos using a computer and printer, or you can take them to your local drug/department store and have them printed. This course will teach you how the camera works, how to take great photos, how to save your digital photos on a computer, print the ones you want to keep copies of, and edit your photos. You will need to bring a digital camera to class.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR SENIORS (INTERMEDIATE) Fee: $45 This course is being offered at the request of students who have completed the beginning digital photography class for seniors. The focus will be on improving your skills in digital photography. Your instructor will give you assignments that will expand your technical skills and should increase your ability to take more creative images. The class will be held in a PC computer lab so you will also learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and prepare files for printing, transmitting, and storing.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNDAMENTALS Fee: $50 This course is designed with the beginner in mind, but will also be of interest to those with more photographic experience. The digital camera has radically transformed the world of photography and the new tools for digital imaging are getting more sophisticated and less expensive every year. In this course, you will study the fundamentals of digital photography with an emphasis on enhancing your ability to create high-quality digital photographs. We will examine techniques of image acquisition (using cameras and scanners) and finally using image manipulation (using Photoshop) in the digital darkroom (PC environment).

PHOTOGRAPHY FUNDAMENTALS Fee: $50
This course is designed with the beginner in mind, but will also be of interest to those with more photographic experience. This course will give you a nuts and bolts view of how great photographs are taken. You will learn how to choose a single lens reflex camera (SLR), as well as how it works. Other topics you will learn about will be correct choice of lenses, electronic flash, light metering, filters, basic portraiture, and much, much more! You will also be introduced to 35mm black and white developing and printing including film developing, printing negatives, and displaying your prints. Chemicals and darkroom equipment will be provided. Students must furnish film and paper.

Students must provide film and paper for printing as well as mounting supplies. Photography Fundamentals is not a prerequisite, but helpful. Equipment needed: 35mm SLR, tripod, and electronic flash. PHOTOGRAPHY: DIGITAL AND CHEMICAL Fee: $50 Are you interested in digital photography, but just can't part with your old film camera? Or maybe you're not sure if you want to purchase a digital camera? This course is for those who can't make up their mind, or have made it up, and still use both at different times and want to learn more. It will provide a practical exercise in the use of both photography formats. For those who are new to digital photography, one-on-one help will guide you in the use of your new camera and teach you how it functions with the software that came with it. You will also learn methods for using your new camera that you may not have considered. You will have a chance to work in the "wet" darkroom learning alternative processes of film development, taking your traditional photography to new levels. Aspects of the advantages and disadvantages of both digital and film base will be discussed as well as the actual printing of images. You will learn how to transform existing images and create new ones on class shooting assignments and hopefully leave the class with new ideas and a better understanding of both film base and digital photography.

You will learn how to choose your subject, place people in your photos for a more interesting composition, use color and contrast, and other factors that will help you make your photos more than just snapshots. Did you recently purchase or receive a new video camera and want to learn more about how it works and how to shoot professional-looking footage? Maybe you've had your camera for a while, but you don'tFeel comfortable with it or you want to improve the quality of your work. If so, then this course should also be of interest to you. Instruction will include basic video camera operation, camera movement and composition, basic lighting setups, how to use microphones and audio, and how to use the editing software that came with your camera. In addition to an overview of videography, there will be hands-on training so that each of you will complete the class knowing more about your individual camera system. Nearly all systems are somewhat different and your instructor will help you to tailor your system to meet your individual needs.
