This course provides an opportunity to refine and expand additional skills in Latin with emphasis on the study of selected books from the Aeneid by Vergil. Emphasis is placed on a critical appreciation of the Aeneid as poetry by demonstrating the ability to translate literally, to analyze and interpret, and to understand dactylic hexameter, scansion and figures of speech in Vergil’s verse. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an increased proficiency in reading and writing Latin and demonstrate an understanding of Imperial religious beliefs, history, institutions and laws.
This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in humanities/fine arts.
