This course provides an opportunity to explore issues related to the Roman World. Emphasis is placed on a critical appreciation of the Pro Caelio as a rhetorical speech by demonstrating the ability to translate literally, to analyze and interpret, and to understand the figures of speech in Cicero’s prose composition. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an increased proficiency in reading and writing Latin and demonstrate cultural awareness of Late Republican political history, institutions, and laws.
This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in humanities/fine arts.
