Generally, writing assignments in all English courses are graded based on FTCC English department criteria for compositions as outlined below:

As many as 10 Points can be deducted for:
thesis error; inadequate introduction; inadequate conclusion; faulty organization; lack of unity; inadequate development

As many as 7 Points can be deducted for: 
fragment error; run-on, comma splice; agreement error; topic sentence error; faulty pronoun reference

As many as 3 Points can be deducted for: 
semi-colon fault; error in case; shift in tense; shift in person; shift in mood; shift in voice; error in verb form; paragraph division; parallelism; no transition; misplaced modifier or dangling modifier; choppy sentences; spelling error

As many as 2 Points can be deducted for:  clarity; capitalization; awkwardness; wordiness; contraction; faulty diction; trite expression; illegible; punctuation error; apostrophe error; comma error; colon error; exclamation point; hyphen error; omit punctuation; period error; question mark; quotation mark; abbreviation; wrong word; faulty subordination; word left out
