Associate in Arts (A.A.)
Program Code: A10100
Welcome to the Associate in Arts Degree! The Associate in Arts degree program is for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges and universities to continue study for a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Students entering the AA program must have good basic skills to ensure success in college-level courses, including the Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) courses, pre-major articulation courses, and general education courses. The AA degree program of study is structured to include two components:
The Universal General Education Transfer Component comprises a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit. Additional general education, pre-major, and elective courses that prepare students for successful transfer into selected majors at UNC institutions comprise and additional 30-31 hours, bringing the total number of hours in the degree programs to 60-61 semester hours. Fayetteville Technical Community College offers a wide variety of general education elective and pre-major elective courses in a number of disciplines, such as Humanities and Arts, Social Sciences, and English Education to provide students a head start on their desired major at a four-year college or university. To ensure maximum transferability of credits, students should select a transfer major and preferred transfer university before completing the 30 semester hours of UGETC credit at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Additional general education, pre-major, and elective courses should be selected based on a student's intended major and transfer institution.
