For this project, the
department was brought in to eliminate an erosion problem.
A heavy rain washed out a road that crossed
over a stream right into the Cape Fear River . A money-saving solution was
sought to preserve the natural beauty of the area.
After hours of planning and research, it was decided that a gabion dam should be
built across the stream. The dam allows water to gradually pass through it,
which in turn, prevents the road from being washed out in future rainstorms.
