Hi, my name is William,
here goes a short synopsis of my career at Georgia Department of
Transportation so far!
I grew up in Wade, NC
which is near Fayetteville. I graduated from
Fayetteville Technical Community
College in May of
2003. I started with Georgia Department of Transportation working in the
District 3 Design Office as a Civil
Engineering Technologist
on July 1, 2003. I was promoted to Design Engineer 1 on April 16,
2004. Georgia Department of Transportation has sent me to several
classes so far. They are: Plan Development Process, Introduction to
Highway Hydraulics, Culvert Design, Beginners Caice, and Worksite Erosion
Control Supervisor Certification. I am scheduled to take Urban Drainage
Design and Roadside Design in May and July respectively.
My job is basically to design roadway projects including
everything from horizontal and vertical alignments to drainage and erosion
control. I also oversee consultant projects as well. So far I have
finished a set of plans for a State-Aid Project and worked on a Federal-Aid
project extensively. There are six consultant projects that I have assigned
to me right now as well.
For the students of Fayetteville
Technical Community College I recommend considering a career with
Georgia Department of Transportation if they don't mind the move. I
have learned a great deal in my first 10 months here with Georgia Department
of Transportation . I was hesitant to make the move at first and wanted to
go back home after about two months, but I stuck it out, and now I don't
regret a thing! Georgia Department of Transportation offers a variety
of jobs, and a variety of locations to choose from. So if you are a city
slicker or a good ol' boy like me, you can find a good place to work with
Georgia Department of Transportation . Good luck to all Fayetteville
Technical Community College students, and say hey to Mr. Hayes and "The
Gilmanizer" for me!
