Equipment And Auxiliary Aids

Fayetteville Technical Community College has the following equipment available for use by students with documented disabilities.  The majority of the equipment has been provided through funding from the Carl Perkins Vocational Education Act.
I. Franklin spellers - Provides phonetic spelling corrections and spelling verification.  Students with learning disabilities may find the Franklin Spellers useful.
II.  Audio tape recorders/Players:
A. Voice activated mini recorder.   May be recommended for the student with different learning styles and specific learning disabilities (SLD).
B. Cassette Tape Recorder/Player (4-track) - Specifically designed for listening to books on tape and for the recordings for the blind and students with dyslexia.
III. Overhead projectors - Recommended as an instructional aid especially for the hard of hearing (hearing impaired) and different learning styles to include specific learning disabilities (SLD).
IV. Audio cassette tape duplicating machine.
V. ZoomText magnification software - Recommended for visually impaired (low vision) students.
VI. Jaws for Windows - magnification software.  Recommended for visually challenged (low vision) and blind students.
VII. Talking Calculators - Recommended for visually challenged (low vision) students.
A. Talking calculator with memory, jumbo readout and earphone.
B. Talking calculator with memory, alarm clock and earphone.
VIII. PA amplification System - Technology for hard of hearing (hearing impaired) students.
IX. Arkenstone Open Book and DEC Talk Speech Synthesizer (scanning and text conversion software) - Software that functions as a reading machine which interfaces with a scanner and a personal computer (PC). Recommended for visually challenged (low vision) and blind students.
X.  TTY (Text Telephone for the Deaf) - Used by hearing and speech impaired who are unable to use a telephone in the usual way.
XI. Braille 'n Speak - A note-taking tool recommended for use by visually challenged (severe loss of vision) and blind students.
XII. Other equipment and supplies include lap desks which may be used by students with orthopedic challenges and students with wheelchairs, note taking paper and count frames
