Graduation Frequently Asked Questions


Q: What does the $25 graduation fee cover?

A: The $25 graduation fee includes the cost of the diploma, diploma cover, announcements, cap, gown, and other expenses connected with the graduation ceremony. This fee is required regardless whether you attend the ceremony or not.

Q:  I applied for graduation last year but was ineligible.  Will I have to re-apply?

A: Yes, you will have to re-apply for graduation; but, you do not have to pay the graduation fee again.  Please complete an Application for Graduation and turn in at the Student Activities Office.  Someone will be able to verify whether or not you paid for graduation.

Q: I missed the December deadline to apply and pay for graduation.  Is it too late to apply?

A: No, it's not too late to apply.  Financial Services will resume taking graduation fee payments on January 22, 2008.  Please meet with your Advisor and pay the graduation fee as soon as possible to insure that everything has been finalized for your graduation.  For important dates in reference to graduation, click here.

Q: I will complete my graduation requirements at the end of the Fall semester.  When will I get my degree, diploma, or certificate?

A:  All degrees, diplomas, and certificates are released after the graduation ceremony.  All documents for graduates who have completed all program requirements at the end of the fall semester will be printed with a December date and will be released after the graduation ceremony. 

If you need documentation that you have completed all program requirements, you may contact the Dean for the program area from which you are graduating to request a letter stating that you have met the requirements for graduation.  The names of the Deans are listed below:

Q:  What do I do if I want a different name printed on my degree, diploma, or certificate?

A:  Your name will be printed on your degree, diploma, or certificate based on the College's database.  If you would like your name printed otherwise, please take your Social Security card and a picture ID with the name that you want printed to the Records and Registration Office in Room 114 in the Tony Rand Student Center.  If you are unable to come to campus, please contact the Registration and Records Office at GUNNL@faytechcc.edu or (910) 678-8476.

Q: My address has changed.  Who do I contact to have it changed?

A: Please contact Deborah House at HOUSED@faytechcc.edu or call (910) 678-8420.  She maintains the graduation database.

Q:  I live out of town.  Can I have my graduation attire and announcements mailed to me?

A: Yes.  You will be charged for shipping.  Please contact Karen Atkinson at ATKINSOK@faytechcc.edu or call (910) 678-8418.

Q: When is graduation?

A: Graduation is Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum, Highway 301 South.

Q: Will my guests need a ticket to attend?

A: No. You will receive fifteen (15) announcements--not invitations--when you pick up your cap and gown. Please encourage your guests to arrive and be seated in a timely manner (no later than 7 p.m.). Graduation is a very special event and we want everyone to have a pleasant and enjoyable experience! Both the coliseum and the expo center are huge, so anticipate extra time to locate your area and expect heavy traffic, etc.

Q: What should I wear to graduation?

A:  Males should wear dark pants, a light-colored shirt, and a tie. Females should wear a dark dress and flat or comfortable shoes (high heels are not recommended). We recommend that you bring bobby pins to secure your cap. Do not bring purses, book bags, etc. There is nowhere to secure personal belongings.

Q: Who receives the Honors tassel & the Highest Honors cord?

A: All graduates completing a degree or diploma program with a major GPA of 3.5-4.0 will receive a gold honor tassel during the line up (the night of graduation). Graduates earning highest honors (a perfect major GPA of 4.0 in a degree or diploma program) will receive a gold honor tassel prior to the ceremony (during line up) and a gold cord as they walk across the stage during the ceremony.

Q:  I am a member of one of FTCC's honor societies.  How do I order the cord and stole?

A:  Please contact one of the following honor society advisors to get information on ordering the cord and stole:

Q: What if a student is indebted to the school?

A: Graduates will not be allowed to secure graduation materials or participate in the ceremony if he/she is indebted to the school. Prospective graduates must settle any outstanding traffic tickets, library fines, and Financial Services fines/loans to take part in graduation.

Q: What if I have to take classes at another college to complete my program requirements to graduate?

A: July 30 is the deadline for receipt of transcripts from other colleges to satisfy graduation requirements and to resolve all incomplete grades in order to be considered a current academic year graduate. It is your responsibility to contact FTCC to verify that your transcript(s) have been received by the Admissions Office by calling (910) 678-8473. If your transcript(s) is/are on file, call the Registrar/Curriculum Office at (910) 678-8252 and request that your degree be mailed to you.

Q: What if I do not attend the graduation ceremony?

A: We hope you will attend the graduation ceremony; however, if circumstances prevent your attendance, you may pick up your diploma(s) from the Job Placement Office, Room 138, Tony Rand Student Center, June 4 or 5 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  If your diploma is not picked up during this time, it will be mailed on June 13 to the address that is listed in our system. Graduates finishing courses in the summer term will be notified when to pick up their diplomas in July. Cosmetology graduates will receive their diplomas in August.
