Clear the Browser Cache
Clearing Your Browser's Cache Memory
Your browsers cache is a fast storage buffer in a computer. For example, web pages you request are stored in your computer's cache. This enables your PC to display these pages to you without having to go back through the Internet to retrieve the page. When your browser encounters an error page it is kept in cache and retrieved when you go to the web site again.
Clearing your cache will force your web browser to obtain a new page from the server you are accessing. It can also significantly improve the speed and performance of your browser. The settings you choose in configuring your browser directly affect all of the internal and external browser-based applications you use.

The following procedures provide steps to clear the cache memory for a variety of browsers:


Clearing Cache on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.0

  1. Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Click Delete Files.
  5. Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
  6. Click OK.

Clearing Cache on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.0

  1. Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Click Delete Files.
  5. Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
  6. Click OK.

Clearing Cache on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0

  1. Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Click Delete Files.
    NOTE:Do not select Delete Cookies. Delete Files removes all the cookies stored on the computer.
  5. Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
  6. Click OK.

Clearing Cache on Netscape® Communicator / Navigator 7.0

  1. Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Click Cache.
  4. Click the Clear Memory Cache button.
  5. Click the Clear Disk Cache button.
  6. Click OK.

  1. Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Click Cache.
  4. Click the Clear Memory Cache button.
  5. Click the Clear Disk Cache button.

Clearing Cache on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01, 4.5, and 5.0 for Macintosh®

  1. Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Internet Explorer menu bar.
  2. Click the arrow beside Web Browser.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Click Empty Now.

 

Browser Cookies Need to be Enabled

This installation of Blackboard Learning SystemTM(Release 6) requires the acceptance of a cookie by your browser software. The cookie is used to ensure that you and only you are able to access information in the courses, assessments, gradebooks and other features which are appropriate for you.

This cookie is NOT stored permanently on your computer, and will be removed when you close your browser. It does not contain any information that could identify you to any third party system or any other Blackboard installation.

The system has been unable to place the cookie. This may be because cookies are disabled in your browser.

To enable cookies in your browser:

  1. Select Internet Options from your browser's Tools Menu
  2. Select the Privacy Tab, and click on the 'Advanced' button.
  3. Select both the 'Override automatic cookie handling' and 'Always allow session cookies' checkboxes. Be sure either 'Accept' or 'Prompt' is selected for 1st party cookies.
  4. Click 'Ok' to Close the Internet Options dialog box.
  5. Click 'Ok' on this page to return to Blackboard Learning SystemTM(Release 6).
     

 

Browser Scripting Needs to be Enabled
Browser Scripting Disabled
This installation of Blackboard Learning SystemTM(Release 6) requires web browser software that supports an ECMAScript client-side scripting language such as JavaScript or JScript. The system has been unable to verify that you are using browser software that supports client-side scripting.

You may need to install supported browser software on your computer to use Release 6

If you are using Microsoft®'s Internet Explorer or Netscape®'s Navigator/Communicator, this alert may have been triggered because scripting has been disabled in your browser. To enable scripting in your browser:

For Internet Explorer

  1. Select Internet Options from your browser's Tools Menu
  2. Select the Security Tab, and click on the 'Custom Level' button.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Scripting' Section, and select either of the last two options under 'Active Scripting' - either 'Enable' or 'Prompt'.
  4. Click 'Ok' to Close the Security Settings dialog box.

    NOTE Depending on your institution's set-up of Release 6, you may need to repeat steps 3 & 4 for more than one 'Security Zone'.
    For example, if you are connecting from a computer inside the same firewall or network as the Release 6 machine, you would select the 'Local Intranet Zone'. If you are making a connection across the internet from another location, you would select the 'Internet Zone'. In some cases, you may need to do both.

     

  5. Click 'Apply' and 'Ok' to close the Internet Options dialog box.

For Netscape Navigator/Communicator

  1. Select Preferences from your browser's Edit Menu.
  2. Select Advanced from the list in the left-hand pane of the dialog box.
  3. Make sure that the primary 'Enable JavaScript' box is checked.
  4. Click 'Ok' to close the dialog box.

Once you have re-enabled Scripting, you will be able to Click 'Ok' on this page to return to Blackboard Learning SystemTM(Release 6).

 

Browser Security Needs to be Set to Medium

You may need to install supported browser software on your computer to use Release 6

If you are using Microsoft®'s Internet Explorer or Netscape®'s Navigator/Communicator, this alert may have been triggered because scripting has been disabled in your browser. To enable scripting in your browser:

For Internet Explorer

  1. Select Internet Options from your browser's Tools Menu
  2. Select the Security Tab, and click on the 'Custom Level' button.
  3. At the bottom of the pop-up box click the down arrow next to the 'Reset to:' drop down box.
  4. Highlight Medium
  5. Click 'Ok' to Close the Security Settings dialog box.
  6. Click 'Apply' and 'Ok' to close the Internet Options dialog box.
