Troubleshooting Internet Connection Problems


Browser Versions approved by Blackboard Technical Support:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
Netscape Navigator 7.0 or higher.
JavaScript must be enabled.
Cookies must be enabled.
If you wish to use the Chat feature, Java must be enabled.

Your browser may not support cookies. If you have one of the required browser versions, you can enable cookies with the following steps:

Netscape Navigator 7.0 or higher:

1. Click 'Edit'
2. Select 'Preferences'
3. Then select 'Advanced'
4. Click on the checkbox next to the words "Accept all cookies that get sent back to the originating server", then click "OK".

Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher:

1. Click 'Tools'
2. Select 'Internet Options'.
3. Then select 'Advanced'.
4. Scroll down until you see the "Cookies" entry. Click the "Always accept cookies" selection, and then click "OK."

You may need to close and restart your browser for the settings to take effect.
NOTE: We suggest the following for students and instructors.

Platform: Windows 95, 98, or 2000
Hardware: 64 MB of RAM, 5 G of free disk space
Software: Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher), Netscape 4.8 (or higher) JavaScript & Cookies must be enabled.
Modem: 56 k modem

Certified configurations have undergone a thorough set of testing by Blackboard Quality Assurance. Blackboard recommends that clients adhere to the Certified Client Browser Configurations.

Those Client Browser Configurations identified as Certified have undergone a thorough set of tests conducted by Blackboard Quality Assurance and are 100% supported by Blackboard Product Support. Compatible Client Browser Configurations have undergone a limited engineering analysis, and this designation indicates that Blackboard is not aware of any issues resulting from that configuration.

Troubleshooting Internet Connection Problems

- Can you access blackboard.faytechcc.edu ? (If not follow the items below).

- Can you access www.faytechcc.edu?

- Can you access other sites? Try www.ncccs.cc.nc.us .

- Is your Internet connection still active? Is the LAN icon in the system tray? The system try is where the time is displayed in the lower left corner of your monitor. If the LAN icon isn't visible, you will need to reconnect to the internet. If the LAN icon is in the system tray you can double click on it to see your connection speed and how long you have been connected to the internet.

- Does your ISP break the connection after there has been no activity in the web browser? Do you have an Instant Messenger program installed on your PC? If you open Instant Messenger program your internet connection will continue to be active. If you don't have Instant Messenger installed, it can be download from http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/latest_win.adp . Make sure you check out the Help/FAQ's link on the AIM page.
